Fetch TCG
Our story · Since 2021

We built Fetch because NZ & AU needed better.

A marketplace built specifically for TCG, by people who actually collect. No endless scrolling. No “is this still available?” DMs. No pricing stuck to whatever the US market is doing.

Made in Aotearoa New Zealand · Available across AU & NZ · Built and funded by collectors

A promo Charizard — the card that sparked the idea for Fetch

The Charizard moment

Sold · $1,000

A JP Charizard promo, found in a Japanese art book in 2017. Sold in 2021 — and that was the moment Fetch started.

The backstory

How Fetch started

A long story short — from trading cards at school to building a marketplace for everyone else doing the same thing.

Late 90s – early 2000s

School playground days

Like a lot of kids at the turn of the millennium, I was into Pokemon, DBZ Score and Yu-Gi-Oh!. Trading cards with mates at school — no sleeves, no binders, just cards in pockets and backpacks.

I remember being given $20 once to spend at Armageddon and thinking it was the greatest day ever. Eventually life moved on — I got into sport for a while, and that was pretty much it for cards for a long time.

2017 · Japan

An art book, a promo I didn't care for, and the flame coming back

Years later — engaged, grown up, living a whole other life — I took a trip to Japan in 2017 and picked up a Japanese art book because I liked the cover. Tucked inside was a JP Charizard promo. Honestly, I didn't care for it at the time. It got the “oh, neat” treatment and slid into a drawer.

Got home and — for reasons I still can't fully explain — started cracking boxes of XY Evolutions. A lot of them. The flame was back. By 2019 I was deep into DBS Masters.

2021

The Charizard was worth $1,000 — so I sold it

Fast forward to 2021. That JP Charizard sitting in a drawer? Turns out it was now worth around $1,000. So I sold it, and poured the money straight into DBS Masters.

I'd do it all over again. DBZ FO LYFE.

Working out what it was worth and finding a buyer all happened inside Facebook groups and DMs. No local pricing, no proper marketplace. So we built Fetch. Everything below this is what happened next.
